GEMA Las Vegas Intern Spotlight On Erin Kay Cawley

First things first, my name is Erin and I am beyond excited to spend my summer interning with a comedian!  I am a rising senior (wow that’s weird to write) in the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University. I am double majoring in Marketing and Management, Leadership, and Innovation. I am also a member of the school’s first class of Entrepreneurship Fellows.

I grew up in Las Vegas and after leaving for college have returned for every summer since. I love the city and the people in it. It is an exciting and unpredictable place to be. Not to mention, when flying home people cheer when the plane hits the runway…literally clap, scream, and jump.

During the past few years, I have interned in a variety of different industries. I have worked with a public relations, non-profit, and government organization. Now I am incredibly excited to have the opportunity to intern for a comedian. While interning at the public relations firm, I realized that I really enjoy working with people in the entertainment industry. It is fun, fast-paced, and anything but boring! This summer I hope to learn more in-depth about the effort and work that is put into producing a live show on the Las Vegas Strip. I want to be able to apply the skills I have garnered, either through course work at school or through work experience, to the real world. Meaning, I want to market Jeff’s show and get his name out there to the Las Vegas community. Finally, I really hope I learn how to juggle this summer. Come August, it would be slightly embarrassing to have worked with a comedian and juggler all summer and not know how to juggle myself.

GEMA (Georgetown Entertainment Media Alliance) exists to elevate Georgetown’s profile in the entertainment and media community, by strengthening the ties between the University and its alumni and by developing relevant programs and resources for both alumni and current Georgetown students. GEMA currently has hubs in Washington DC, New York, and Los Angeles.

Jeff Civillico is working with University officials to develop GEMA Las Vegas!   Erin Cawley is one of  four entertainment-marketing interns for Jeff Civillico, Inc. this summer.
