GEMA Las Vegas Intern Spotlight On Lena Al-Marzoog

When I told my friends, family, and basically anyone who was curious about my summer that I might have an internship in Las Vegas, they all asked me the same question: what exactly are you going to be doing there? And let me tell you, this was not an innocent I’m-wondering-about-all-the-different-responsibilities-you-will-have-at-your-new-job kind of question. No, it was more of a I’m-wondering-if-you-are-going-to-drop-out-of-Georgetown-and-become-a-stripper kind of question. In spite of the seemingly universal belief that Vegas is the place for only a certain type of profession (see previous statement), I realized that this internship was actually the perfect combination of business and performing arts, the two things that take up most of my time in college.

I’m a finance and international business double major, but the hours I spend in dance rehearsal literally outnumber the hours I spend in class.  When I heard about this opportunity, I couldn’t believe how perfect it was. I get to learn about the business side of live entertainment and about marketing for a show on a much larger scale than I was used to. Not to mention I’d be in Vegas, working for a juggler/comedian (jugmedian?). Who gets to do something like that? It’s definitely an unusual opportunity for a Georgetown student. And so I applied, begged Jeff to hire me (no, but really), and now here I am!

I’m looking forward to spending my summer doing something unique, meeting different people, and just experiencing Vegas in a way most people don’t get to.
