“You Think Too Much!” I Hear It A Lot

I hear that a lot from friends, peers, and ex-girlfriends 🙂 Maybe I do, but I’d rather think too much than not enough!

I get so recharged by new beginnings – new months, weeks, even days.  I’m part-dork.  I know this now, and I’m okay with it!  There’s always another chance right around the corner to begin again – to reflect on what worked in your business and your life, and what needs tweaking – and to start again smarter, stronger, and better informed.  I attribute my early fascination on reflection to my Jesuit education (high school and college), where I learned to place such a high priority on regularly stepping outside of my self and my perspective to try to see my place in the world.  I learned how my daily actions, that so often get lost in the hustle of life, over time can really have an impact.

Society generally focuses on the potential and promise of a new year, but I prefer to gauge my development across the more manageable timeline of a month.  You can make a lot happen in 30 days.  That being said… I am so very excited for February.  I’ve been out of town for the last couple weeks with a vacation in Costa Rica, a large corporate show for Bayer Pharmaceuticals in Orlando hosting their 2014 Leadership Awards, and a Board of Governors meeting at my alma mater, Georgetown University, in Washington, DC. I’m grateful for the time away to clear my head, and return to Vegas more focused than ever.

Recharging in Costa Rica

This month, I am particularly pumped about:

  1. The continued development of my nonprofit, Win-Win Entertainment.  We recently added 3 rockstar advisory board members (official announcements coming soon!).  And along with the administration and logistical aspects that are such a big part of my job as Chairman, Win-Win keeps me personally giving back to the community regularly through charity shows.  February is giving me the opportunity to return to University Medical Center for shows at the Children’s Hospital and bedside visits at the Burn Unit, and to host Las Vegas Metro Police Department’s “Take Back the City” event in downtown Las Vegas at the Cashman Center on Feb 21st, 10am – 2pm.
  2. The development of my Give Back Sundays program.  Give Back Sundays is a community partnership day where we offer 1 designated nonprofit or local community organization the opportunity to bring their organization to the show at a reduced rate, and receive 50% of ticket sales generated by that organization back to them.  We piloted this program in the Fall with Trauma Intervention Program.  We’re really getting into it now with “Give Back Sundays” booked solid into April!  We have 3 great charities lined up this month– Three Square Food Bank (Feb 8), Spread the Word Nevada (Feb 15), Create a Change Now (Feb 22).  If you’re interested in learning more about this program, please visit: https://jeffcivillico.com/introducing-give-sundays-vegas-show/
  3. The decision to increase our number of shows at The Linq.  We’ll be kicking up to 6 days a week in the Spring, and even 7 days a week throughout the Summer – 245 shows at The Linq projected this year!  More opportunities to create more smiles.
  4. Our box office appreciation party at Brooklyn Bowl on Feb 12th.  We used to throw monthly events for our box office as a way of thanking them for all the hard work they do, but somewhere along the way these unfortunately fell by the wayside. But we’re back now, baby!  Our box office agents are the ones who make sure our showroom is full, and we can’t thank them enough for all they do.
  5. A TV project in the works that would combine my love for and knowledge of Las Vegas, my role as an ambassador of  The Linq and Caesars Entertainment more generally, and my desire to continue growing as a host personality.  Yes, that is an intentionally ambiguous and mysterious statement… Mwah ha ha! (evil laugh).
  6. Great opportunities to take my talents on the road to corporate events – hosting a 3-day conference at The Atlantis in the Bahamas this month, as well as performing my clean corporate show in Salt Lake City, and a few here in Vegas.
  7. Creative changes to my show.  Transcribing my show last month led to 13 single-spaced pages of notes, which led to a list of organized and prioritized action steps.  I am implementing them one-by-one, and over the next few months I think you’ll see a tighter, more polished production.

What are you looking forward to this month?  Wishing you all the best for a fulfilling February!
